Mark Carrington, Principal Consultant at Two Bays Consulting

Mark Carrington has worked as a management consultant for more than 30 years and has worked in more than 15 countries across 4 continents. In this time he has been involved in a wide variety of engagements, primarily focusing on the uses and management of information technology (IT). A large proportion of these engagements have been in the financial services industry, covering many aspects of banking, credit cards and insurance.

For example he has been instrumental in:

  • Helping Barclaycard build and execute a multi-channel market entry strategy into Germany, France and Spain
  • Defining and implementing the eCommerce strategy for Barclaycard in the UK, including programme managing the launch of a new shopping intermediation business in the UK (now integrated with www.kelkoo.co.uk)
  •  Developing and launching the second stage strategy for Egg.com, including launch of their Shopping service
  • Developing B2B and B2C strategies for Standard Bank, the leading South African commercial bank, leading to the launch of a new Internet-based credit card and online shopping venture (www.bluebean.com)
  • Getting approval for the business case for Intranet-based sales and servicing strategy for the corporate banking division of Barclays PLC in UK
  • Developing new IT architecture and IT strategy for both Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank and for Standard Equities in South Africa
  •  Developing a new retail banking IT architecture for Credit Suisse Retail Banking division in Switzerland
  •  Developing a new IT-based business strategy for the National Bank of Greece in Greece
  •  Benchmarking the Finance Function for Arjo Wiggins Appleton across its various paper businesses in UK, France and USA

Over the last few years, Mark has been working extensively in a range of Internet Marketing initiatives across a range of interesting niche product areas.

In addition to his consulting work, Mark co-authored The Banking Revolution; Salvation or Slaughter, a book about the role of technology in creating winners and losers in British Retail Banking.

As a Vice President of marchFIRST in UK and in Australia, Mark Carrington was responsible for the development of their financial services practice areas. Before this, Mark was a founding shareholder of Mitchell Madison Group which established itself as a pre-eminent specialist financial services management consulting firm. Prior to founding Mitchell Madison Group, Mark worked at Perot Systems Europe, focusing on the design of outsourced information processing and call centre services. Prior to this, Mark was a consultant with McKinsey & Company, where over six years, he co-led the development of the Information Technology/Systems Practice in London. In this role, he was instrumental in developing new consulting approaches in business process reengineering, decision engineering and information technology management and worked with a variety of clients across Europe. At Deloitte Haskins & Sells and Price Waterhouse in South Africa, Mark worked extensively on engagements with deep functional, operational and technical content and in particular, a wide number and variety of software package evaluation and selection engagements.

Mark graduated in Business Science and Law from the University of Cape Town. He has an M.B.A from the University of Witwatersrand and is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in the UK.[/wr_text][/wr_column][/wr_row]
